Floating Christmas Tree

So if you make a lot of holiday cards like I do, it is time to start working on them! I know, I know, we haven't had Halloween yet, but if you want to send them out before the holiday it is time to get working. And this lovely card was inspired by someone else (sorry I just took a picture of it but there was no name on it so I can't thank you) who used her scraps to make the tree. I took it one step further and made a floating scraps tree. I've been wanting to make a card with this technique for a while and I knew this tree would look fabulous like this. And the second bonus is that I got to use up a ton of Lights Aglow scraps, even the small ones. All you need to do is cut your scraps into 1/2" pieces, attach them to a piece of window sheet and then cut out whatever shape you like. What an amazing way to use up something you might have otherwise thrown out. Win! Win!

If you get lost making this card, or you are just a visual learner, please watch my Facebook Live below. And come watch me every Monday at 1 pm PST at Stamp with Dr Robin!

Let's make a card! Gather your supplies:
1. Cherry Cobbler cardstock--Card base 5 1/2 by 8 1/2" scored on the long side at 4 1/4" and folded in half along the score line.
2. Evening Evergreen cardstock 3 7/8 by 5 1/8"
3.Very Vanilla Cardstock-- 2 pieces 3 3/4 by 5"(one for outside and one for inside) and a 3/4" scrap for the sentiment
4. Window Sheet--piece 3 by 4 1/2"
5. Multiple pieces of Lights Aglow paper in 1/2" strips
6. Stamp Set--Brightest Glow (#159542)
7. Dies--Twinkle Lights (#159541 or #159961 if in the bundle)
8. Ink--Cherry Cobbler
9. Simply Elegant Trim (#155766)
10. Merry Melody 3D Embossing Folder (#156392)
11. Basic supplies--bone folder, Paper Snips, adhesive (I like Multipurpose Glue), Mini and Regular Dimensionals, Die Cutting and Embossing Machine, Mini Glue Dots

Start by folding your card base in half. Run a piece of the Very Vanilla cardstock through the embossing machine in your Merry melody 3D embossing folder, then attach it to the Evening Evergreen cardstock. Attach the whole thing to the card front.

Using Cherry Cobbler ink, and your stamps of choice from the Brightest Glow stamp set, stamp a front sentiment on the 3/4" piece of Very Vanilla. Also stamp an inside sentiment on the other piece of Very Vanilla and attach it to the inside of the card.

Now it is time to make the tree. Take your piece of Window Sheet and start at the top and arrange 6-7 pieces of the 1/2" Lights Aglow Designer Series Paper with about 1/8" between each one. Let it dry a bit if you used glue then cut it out with the die as below:

Attach the tree to the card using Dimensionals--make sure you hide them behind some paper. Tie a bow with the gold Simply Elegant trim and attach to the top of the tree with a glue dot.

Cut diagonally on both sides close to your sentiment. Attach it to your card--use Dimensionals on the right side and glue to attach it to the tree. Here's another close-up of the card. Now make a bunch more with all those scraps!

Here is my Facebook live showing how to make this card. Please let me know if I can help with ordering any of these supplies for you.
