Floating Christmas Ornament Card

This card uses a variety of products from the 2026 Sept-Dec Catalog to create an ornament that appears to float above the card. It floats as it is strips of DSP on a Window Sheet that is elevated off the card using Dimensionals. I love this illusion and have made many cards like this in the past and they always make me smile. I used Designer Series Paper from the Timeless Christmas Suite as well as 2 different stamp sets from this catalog.

And do you see that subtle texture behind the ornament? That is the Softly Woven Embossing Folder that I just love.

Let's make this card. Gather your supplies:

  1. Thick Basic White cardstock--card base is 5 1/2" by 8 1/2" scored on the long side at 4 1/4"
  2. Timeless Christmas DSP--various pieces 1/2" by 4", with one for the inside
  3. Timeless Metallic Specialty Paper--2 pieces of red and one of green cut 1/2" by 4". Cut a 3/4" by 1/2" piece of green for the top of the ornament
  4. Window Sheet--4" square
  5. Basic White cardstock--4 1/4" by 5 1/2", second piece 3/4" by 4" scrap
  6. 3 Banner Punch
  7. Dies--Spotlight on Nature
  8. Stamp sets--Woodland Wishes and Soiree Salutations
  9. Softly Woven 3D Embossing Folder
  10. Ink—Poppy Parade
  11. Multicolor Christmas Baker's Twine--about 12"
  12. Adhesive-Backed Sparkle Sequins
  13. Basic supplies--Bone folder, Paper Snips, adhesive (I like Multipurpose Glue and Seal+), Paper Trimmer, Stamp, Cut and Emboss Machine, Take Your Pick Tool,  Piercing Mat or Glass Mat Studio, Regular Dimensionals, Mini Glue Dots
Start by making the ornament. You will need 7 strips of 1/2" DSP/Metallic Specialty Paper--you can see what I used above. Glue down one strip even with the top edge of the 4" by 4" Window Sheet and one at the bottom edge. Then glue the center one and then the ones in between, leaving an even space between them all. Don't use too much glue, so it doesn't smush out when you cut it. Leave it to dry for at least 5 minutes before die cutting it with the largest Spotlight on Nature die--be sure to go forward and back so it cuts through everything. If you want to see how to do this, please watch my Facebook Live video (loaded on YouTube) below, then come back every Monday at 1 pm and watch me make a new card.

Using Poppy Parade ink, stamp the inside sentiment from the Woodland Wishes stamp set. Then attach one of the 1/2" pieces of Timeless Christmas DSP to the inside.

Stamp the outside sentiment on the 3/4" piece of Basic White in Poppy Parade and punch it out with the middle of the 3 Banner punch.  Cut off the left side of the banner.

Take the 4 1/4" by 5 1/2" piece of Basic White and run it through the Stamp, Cut & Emboss Machine inside the Softly Woven 3D Embossing Folder and attach it to the outside of the folded card base.

Attach the ornament using Regular Dimensionals, making sure they are behind the strips of paper. Attach the 3/4" by 1/2" piece of green Timeless Metallic Specialty Paper directly to the card front, slipping it under the ornament. Tie a floppy bow using the Multicolor Christmas Baker's Twine and attach it using a Mini Glue Dot.

Glue the front sentiment strip to the ornament, slipping the left end under/by the bow. Attach 2 large and 1 small red Adhesive-Backed Sparkle Sequins and you are done. Here's another look at the card:
