Wisteria Wishes Baby Wipe Technique

Today I wanted to make a card using the new Wisteria Wishes stamp set from the 2022-23 Annual Stampin' Up catalog. The first thing I though of was: how am I going to stamp those beautiful wisteria so that they have the variations in color that a true flower does? And then I remembered a technique I hadn't used in a while, the baby-wipe technique! And that's how this card came about. Now if you look at these flowers, I didn't really make wisteria today, more like lupines but you can obviously use this for making wisteria also, and I did some cards like that also. Check back tomorrow for some pictures of more cards using this set.

For more info on making this card and to watch me actually using the baby-wipe technique, take a look at my Facebook Live below. You can watch me live every Monday at 1 pm PST or watch a replay here or on my YouTube channel, both of which are Stamp with Dr Robin.

Let's get to making this card. First, gather your supplies to make this card.

1. Highland Heather cardstock 5 1/2" by 8 1/2" scored on the long side at 4 1/4"
2. Basic White cardstock 4 by 5 1/4" for the outside, another piece 3 3/4 by 5" for the inside, another scrap at least 2 by 2" for the popped up flowers and one for the sentiment piece
3. Gorgeous Grape cardstock 4 1/4 by 5 1/2" then die cut with the largest Fabulous Frame die
4. Stamp Set--Wisteria Wishes (#159434 or #158860 for the bundle) and Sending Smiles (#158701 or #158707 for the bundle)
5. Dies--Wisteria (#158859 or #158860 for the bundle) and Sending (#159271 or #158707 for the bundle), Fabulous Frames (#159163)
6. Ribbon--Fresh Freesia Open Weave Ribbon (#155615)
7 Brushed Brass Butterflies (#158136)
8. Ink--Gorgeous Grape, Granny Apple Green, Balmy Blue and Soft Sea Foam
9. Ink refills--Fresh Freesia, Highland Heather and Gorgeous Grape
10. For baby wipe technique--a metal or glass pie plate, Baby wipes
11. Basic supplies--bone folder, Paper Snips, adhesive (I like Multipurpose Glue), Piercing Mat, Regular and Mini Dimensionals, Die Cutting and Embossing Machine, Mini Glue Dots, Blending Brushes, Foam Adhesive Strips.

Take your 4 by 5 1/4" Basic White cardstock and the largest set of stems and leaves stamp from the Sending Smile stamp set. Using Granny Apple Green ink, stamp multiple stems, making them various heights and some in second generation (stamp them again without re-inking).

Now make your baby-wipe pad that you will use for the flowers. Fold 2-3 baby wipes in half laying them on top of each other in your pie tin--this prevents splatters. Using the single wisteria flower stamp, ink in the baby wipe pad (don't move it around, just press it firmly down into the pad), stamp flowers on top of the stems. Make sure to clean your stamp set after each time you stamp as otherwise your baby wipe pad will turn into a muddy mess. Then using a piece of scratch paper, stamp the set of 3 flowers, and cut them out using the coordinating dies. Stamp some flowers on the inside Basic White (3 3/4 by 5") piece also.

Next use your Blending Brushes and Balmy Blue for the sky and Seafoam for around the leaves, add some background color. Attach the Gorgeous Grape frame using Foam Adhesive Strips. Cut apart the panel of 3 wisteria flowers and separately attach them using Regular and Mini Dimensionals. Here's a close up of that:

Fold your card base in half and attach this whole piece to your card. Die cut the smaller of the sentiment pieces from the Sending Dies. Using Gorgeous Grape ink, stamp a sentiment on to it then attach to the front of your card. Notice you only need some Dimensionals on the right side of the sentiment piece--glue the left side flat to the Gorgeous Grape frame. Tie a bow with your Fresh Freesia ribbon and attach with a Glue Dot.

Here's the inside of the card--I did add some stems to the bottom of the flowers.

Here is my Facebook Live from today that will help with using the baby-wipe technique. If you have any other questions, email me at stampwithdrrobin@gmail.com. Enjoy and come watch me Mondays at 1 pm PST.
