Hippest Hippos
OK everyone, you are going to fall in love with these adorable Hippos and the best part that is that they are FREE with purchases of $50 starting 7/1/22 for 2 months. These dancing hippos remind me of a certain cute Disney movie that we've all grown up with. And the dies are great too--they have some extras like the umbrella, hearts and flowers I'm using today and also a boat, tub water and snorkeling gear which are great too. And this new fun fold is great too!
Let's make this card. First, gather your supplies.
1. Tahitian Tide 5 1/2 by 1" scored on the long side at 1 3/4, 3 1/2, 5 1/4 and 7. With the part you cut off, cut 3 by 6" and score at 3"
2. Polished Pink cardstock--2 pieces cut 2 3/4 by 2/34", a scrap for the umbrella and hearts
3. Basic White 3 3/4 by 5 1/4" and 2 pieces cut 2 5/8 by 2 5/8" and a scrap to stamp the hippos
4. 2022-23 In Color 6x6" DSP (#159253) 4 pieces each cut 1 1/2 b y 5 1/4"
5. Petal Pink scraps to cut out flowers and hearts
6. Stamp Set--Hippest Hippos (#159921) FREE starting 7/122 with a $50 order
7. Dies--Hippo Dies (#159928) FREE starting 7/122 with a $50 order
8. Blends--Lt Smokey Slate, Lt Polished Pink, Dark Petal Pink
9. Watercolor Pencils #1--Basic Gray
10. Ink--Memento Black
11. Basic supplies--bone folder, Paper Snips, adhesive (I like Multipurpose Glue), Regular Dimensionals, Die Cutting and Embossing Machine, Wink of Stella
Start with your card base-after you've scored it, fold the last (7") fold towards the other part, then accordion fold the 3 small folds. Please watch my Facebook live (from Stamp with Dr Robin) below if this is confusing. The video also includes some current info from Stampin' Up and a sneak peak of all my Sale a Bration FREE products. Attach the 1 1/2 by 5 1/4" pieces of DSP to the accordion folds, making sure they are even.
Now fold the 6 by 3" piece of Tahitian Tide in half. Fold up the card base and attach the front of this smaller piece to the front of the card (just use glue on about 1/2" of the inside of the front of the small piece). Fold and attach the other half to the back of the accordion folds making sure it lays flat when closed.
Time to make hippos! Stamp 2 of the dancing hippos on scratch paper with Memento ink and color them--I used the Light Polished Pink Blend on the tutus and the dance shoes, Dark Petal Pink on her tummy and the Basic Gray Watercolor Pencil to color her body and face (lighter on the oval and heavier color on the rest). Use Wink of Stella to blend in the pencil on her body. Now cut out the 2 hippos. On one of the Basic White squares, stamp the sentiment below and use your Light Smokey Slate Blend to make a shadow. Attach the hippo with Dimensionals. Attach the umbrella with a Dimensional on top and a bit of glue to her hand. Attach 2 Petal Pink hearts with Multipurpose Glue.
For the other hippo, make a shadow with Light Smokey Slate Blend Attach the hippo with Dimensionals. Attach 2 Petal Pink flowers with Multipurpose Glue.
Here's my video from Facebook to show you how to fold the fun fold.
I'm not sure why it won't upload--it keeps saying there is music on here I can't use, but I didn't use any music on my video. When you click on it, then click on "Watch on Facebook" and it should play.
Love your little Hippo card. Can't wait to be able to get this stamp set and dies. So cute.
