Christmas in July
This past weekend my friend and upline Peggy Noe and I had a Christmas in July retreat at my house and this was one of the cards I made for that retreat, so I though you would all like to make it too. The retreat featured the Christmas Lights bundle as well as other products from the Lights Aglow Suite from the July-December Mini Catalog. If you like to send lots of holiday cards, you should get a head start now and make a few of these cards.
This is a fun fold card with lots of parts. I suggest before trying this you watch my Facebook Live below and get a feel for how to make it. Also, making a template with some old cardstock and DSP and write the measurements on the card for all the cuts will help you make it again next time.
First, gather your supplies.
1. Cherry Cobbler cardstock, multiple pieces
Back piece is 4 1/4 by 5 1/2"
Center/folded piece is 5 1/2 by 8" scored on the long side at 1 1/2, 2 3/4, 5 1/4 and 6 1/2"
Front piece 3 1/2 by 5 1/2"
Piece under the sentiment is 3/4" by 4"
2. Soft Succulent cardstock 3 1/4 by 5 1/4"
3. Very Vanilla cardstock sentiment is about 3 1/4 by 1/2" (you can cut it down later if needed) and inside piece is 2 1/4 by 5 1/4"
4. Evening Evergreen cardstock cut 2 3/4 by 4 1/4"
5. Lights Aglow DSP (#159535)
Green piece is 1 1/4 by 5 1/4"
2 of the dots cut 1 by 5 1/4"
2 of the little gold stars on Cherry Cobbler cut 3/4 by 5 1/4"
Front DSP is 3 by 5"
6. Gold Glimmer (#159537) scrap for the star topper
7. Stamp Set--Christmas Lights (#159538 or bundle #159961), Brightest Glow (#159542 or Bundle #159552)
8. Dies-- Twinkling Lights Dies (#159541 or bundle #159961)
9. Ink--Cherry Cobbler and Evening Evergreen
10. Embossing supplies--embossing buddy, gold embossing powder, Versamark and a heating gun
11. Basic supplies--bone folder, Paper Snips, adhesive (I like Multipurpose Glue), Regular and Mini Dimensionals, Die Cutting and Embossing Machine
On my video below I started by stamping, so I think I will start with that here. Using Cherry Cobbler ink, stamp the sentiment on the little Very Vanilla scrap. Die cut 2 small snowflakes into the edges of the Cherry Cobbler piece that is 3/4" by 4". Glue the sentiment to this and put Dimensionals on the back (avoid the snowflakes). You may have to cut the sentiment piece down a bit to make it fit as to not cover the snowflakes.
Now using Evening Evergreen ink, stamp the inside sentiment. Take your Evening Evergreen cardstock and after wiping with your Embossing Buddy, stamp the big tree with Versamark. Cover the Versamark with Gold Embossing Powder and tap off the excess, then heat it up and watch the magic happen. Can you tell I still get a kick out of embossing? Attach the Gold Glimmer star topper to the tree. Set your stamped pieces aside now while we put the card together.
Start with the back piece of Cherry Cobbler (4 1/4 by 5 1/2"). Attach the two 3/4" pieces of DSP to the side like this, leaving equal margins on the sides and top:
Now take the big piece of Cherry Cobbler. Fold both of the center most score lines towards each other then the outside score lines away and you have a modified gate-fold card like this below. Attach the green piece of DSP to the right front side. Attach the 2 pieces of dotted paper to the inside folds. You can attach your Very Vanilla stamped paper to the middle section also.
Now attach these 2 pieces together. Keep the gate-folded piece folded up while you do this. Put some glue on the back (center piece only) of the folded gate card and attach it to the center of the 4 1/4 by 5 1/2 piece of Cherry Cobbler. Center it side to side and make sure the bottoms line up so it will stand up properly.
Now for the front panel. Attach the 3 by 5" piece of DSP to the Soft Succulent piece and then to the last piece of Cherry Cobbler. Then put glue on just the left front of that gate-fold piece (the one without the DSP attached) and attach the front piece, making sure it is centered on the card. Now attach your tree using Dimensionals and then the sentiment piece using Dimensionals also. Your card should stand up like this and look like this from the top when standing.
I hope you enjoyed making this card with me. Thank you to Sue Campfield for teaching me how to make this fold.
