Sea Turtle Faux Step Fold

The Sea Turtle stamp set is a reversible stamp set in the Jan-April Mini Catalog that goes live to customers on 1/5/23, but, as a demonstrator, I can order from it now. Just another perk of becoming a demo. Please let me know if you are interested in joining my team of Robin's Rowdies as we have a lot of fun stamping together.

Before we start making this card, I have a couple announcements. First is that Stampin' Up is having a one day free shipping deal on Thursday 12/15 so be prepared to order. And please use my shipping code DETHEN47, or use this link: https://www.stampinup.com?hostcode=DETHEN47.

I still have 4 Mystery Boxes left, so if you want a Medium-sized USPS Priority Mail box stuffed to the top with gently loved and new Stampin' Up product please let me know asap. They all contain at least 10 retired stamp sets, 2 of which have a matching punch and/or die set. They all have some ribbon, embellishments and at least one embossing folder. The supplies are worth hundreds of dollars and I am selling them for $50 plus $20 for shipping, so $70 total (Venmo or PayPal only). This is a huge deal!

Now on to cardmaking. Gather your supplies:

1. Night of Navy cardstock--Card base 5 1/2 by 8" scored on the long side at 3, 6 and 7" and another piece 3 by 6" scored at 4 1/4"
2. Granny Apple Green cardstock scraps for sentiment backing and seaweed
3. Mint Macaron cardstock scraps for seaweed
4. Basic White cardstock--2 3/4 by 5 1/4" for the inside, 2 3/4 by 4" for the front, a piece to stamp the large turtle on, and a scrap for the sentiment oval
5. Crumb Cake--a 1/2 or 3/4" strip at least 3" long
6. By the Bay Specialty Designer Series Paper--a piece 2 3/4 by 5 1/4 and another one 3/4 by 5 1/4"
7. Stamp Set--Sea Turtle (#160500), Seaside Bay (#160436 or #160445 for the bundle)  and Pansy Patch (#154999) for the sentiment
8. Dies--Seaside Bay (#160444 or #160445 for the bundle)
9. Punch--Double Oval (#154242)
10. Ink--Mint Macaron, Pacific Point, Night of Navy, Balmy Blue, Costal Cabana and Crumb Cake
11. Opal Rounds (#154289)
12. Basic supplies--bone folder, Paper Snips, adhesive (I like Multipurpose Glue),  Regular and Mini  Dimensionals, Mini Blending Brush (coming in the new Mini Catalog) or Sponge Daubers.

This is what we call a faux step card--if you've ever made a step card you know it takes precise/careful scoring and cutting that can be frustrating. This is an easier way to make this card. The best way to put together this card is by crafting along with me from my Facebook Live below or watching my YouTube at Stamp with Dr Robin (please subscribe while you are there as that helps me get noticed).

Start by taking the 5 1/2 by 8" piece of Night of Navy and accordian fold it like below--fold the 3" score line in, the 6" one up and the 7" score line down. Attach the 2 3/4" piece of DSP to the big front of this card and the 3/4 by 5 1/4" piece to the front/small fold.

Now let's stamp. The Sea Turtle stamp set is what Stampin' Up calls a reversible stamp set. This means the background of the stamp is made by turning over the photopolymer stamp and stamping with the back side of the stamp. Start by making the large turtle on a scrap of Basic White. I stamped the BACK side of the stamp using Mint Macaron stamped off first, to give a lighter image. Then turn it over and stamp the front using Pacific Point that I added some Night of Navy using either a small Blending Brush (they are new in the Jan-April Mini Catalog) or a Sponge Dauber. Then fussy cut (cut out) the turtle--sorry but no die set for this but it is easy to cut out.

Now stamp the bubbles on the bottom of the 2 3/4 by 4" piece of Basic White. Stamp the BACK of the bubbles in Costal Cabana and then the front in Pacific Point. Cut one of each of the small and large seaweed pieces from the Seaside Bay dies in Mint Macaron and Granny Apple Green. Attach them to the bottom of this piece. Fold along the score line of the 3 by 6" piece of Night of Navy. Attach the background piece to this.

Tear the Crumb Cake piece of cardstock for the sand. Stamp it with the dots from Seaside Bay stamp set in Crumb Cake and then attach covering the bottom of the seaweed and making the flat side even with the bottom of the Night of Navy. Trim the Crumb Cake if it hangs over the side edges.

Attach your cut out turtle using Large and Mini Dimensionals. Should look like this.

Now to attach to the front of the card. Attach the bottom of the the folded 3 by 6" piece to the left front using glue or Tear 'N Tape. Make sure to move it towards one side so you have room for the sentiment. Then attach the top to the back of the card using the same adhesive--make sure you check both areas first as you only need a small bit of adhesive in the right place.

Stamp the small turtle on the 2 3/4 by 5 1/4" piece of Basic White for the inside. Stamp the BACK of the stamp in Mint Macaron stamped off and the front in Pacific Point. Attach to the inside like this:

Stamp a sentiment (I used one from Pansy Patch) on a Basic White oval punched from the Double Oval punch. Attach that to the larger Double Oval punched from Granny Apple Green. Place 2 large and 1 small  Opal Round to the card and you are done.

Here is my Facebook Live from 12/12/22 where I make this card and show you some tips to help with the cardmaking. Join me every Monday at 1 pm PST for some cardmaking fun over on Stamp with Dr Robin on Facebook.
