Sneak Peak at Friends of the Ocean Suite
When I first saw the Jan-April Mini Catalog this was one of the first suites that caught my eye--I love the bright colors in the Designer Series Paper and the Adhesive-Backed Dots are fabulous. I am a Brights person and this has so many bright colors in it. Also the upcoming Online Exclusives Pastel Ombre Glimmer Paper goes really well with this suite of products, as you can see in this card. Be sure to check out the discussion of Color Buddies on page 32 of the new catalog, and in my Facebook Live below--it's an interesting way to look at our colors and the choices Stampin' Up! is making about new colors.
Let's make this card! Gather your supplies:
1. Melon Mambo cardstock --Card base 5 1/2"" by 8 1/2" scored on the long side at 4 1/4" and folded along the score line
2. Summer Splash cardstock--4" by 5 1/4"
3. Basic White cardstock-- inside piece 3 3/4" by 5", piece about 3" by 6" for stamping the crab and lobster
4. Basic Black cardstock 3/4" by about 2 1/2", depending on which sentiment you want to use
5. Lemon Lime Twist--1 large and 2 small seaweed die cut with the Ocean Friends dies
6. Pastel Ombre Glimmer Paper--blue piece 3" by 5 1/4"
7. Bundle--Ocean Friends
8. Ink--Summer Splash, Bubble Bath, Melon Mambo, Peach Pie, Pumpkin Pie
9. Sunny Days Iridescent Dots
10. Embossing Supplies--Embossing Buddy, Versamark, White Embossing Powder, Heat Tool
11. Basic supplies--Bone folder, Paper Snips, adhesive (I like Multipurpose Glue and Seal+), Paper Trimmer, Take Your Pick Tool, Piercing Mat, Regular and Mini Dimensionals
Let's do all our stamping first. The animals are 2 step stamping--watch my Facebook Live below to see me compare stamping with the filled in versus the more detailed/outline stamp first. For this stamp set, it seemed easier to me to stamp the filled in one first, but try both ways. I used Bubble Bath for the filled in stamp for the crab, then Melon Mambo for the outline. For the lobster, I used Peach Pie for the solid part and Pumpkin Pie for the outline. Die cut them both out.
Now put both the bubble stamps together on one block and stamp the bubbles on both right and left sides of the Summer Splash cardstock in the same color ink. You can then attach that to the front of the folded card.
Emboss a sentiment on Basic Black. Remember to use your Embossing Buddy first, then stamp in Versamark, then sprinkle on the White powder and flick off the excess, and heat with your Heat Tool. See below for a close up.
To cut the Glimmer Paper, use the long wavy die to cut both long edges, laying the wavy side towards the edge. It will cut off a skinny piece like below. Attach that to the inside Basic White piece, trimming off the excess, then attach to the inside of the card.
Time to put it all together. Attach the Glimmer Paper to the center of the Summer Splash piece. Put Regular and Mini Dimensionals on the back of the crab and lobster and arrange them on the front of your card. Figure out where you want your seaweed to go--you can then glue them down before placing your animals on the card, or afterwards, just slipping them under the edges.
Attach 3 (I used 1 large and 2 small) of the Summer Splash Sunny Days Iridescent Dots. Attach the sentiment piece using 1 Dimensional under the left side, and some adhesive under the right edge.
