Cute as a Bug
So if you are like me, when you first saw the Cute as a Bug suite you probably said, "Eww, I don't like bugs!". But then I looked closer and the bugs in the Designer Series paper are so darn cute that I had to buy it. Now I haven't yet bought the bundle, but after making a bunch of cards with the DSP, I am leaning towards getting it. The dies DO cut out many of the bugs in the DSP, but for these cards I actually fussy cut them all, which was quite easy to do.
I also used the Mixed Up Patterns DSP on page 65 of the 2026 Jan-April Mini Catalog--did you miss this paper too? It is a pack of small prints that go with many of the other paper in this catalog. And the sentiments are from the January Product of the Month set that you can buy for only $5 after you spend $75 on any order. These new Products of the Month are while supplies last and change monthly, and you can only buy one of each.
Let's make these cards! Gather your supplies:
- Old Olive cardstock—card base 5 1/2" by 8 1/2" scored at 4 1/4" on the long side and folded in half along the score line. Second piece 4 1/4" by 5 1/2" die cut with the second largest Beautifully Celebrated die
- Basic White cardstock--3 3/4" by 5" (X2) for the insides. Scraps for the sentiments.
- Cute as a Bug DSP--the card on the right uses one of the 6" scenes cut down to 4" by 5 1/4" (use the 3/4" piece leftover for inside of the second card). The card on the left uses one of the smaller scenes. Fussy cut (or use the dies if you have them) several of the bugs from the DSP
- Mixed up Patterns DSP --cut 2 pieces (yellow and olive) 4" by 5 1/2" and then cut them in half (at 2 3/4") on the long side. This is enough for 2 cards and you can see my second one down below.
- Stamp set--Fabulous Sayings
- Dies--Beautifully Celebrated
- Beautiful Pattern 3D Embossing Folder
- Ink—Mossy Meadow
- Old Olive Specialty Rickrack
- Embellishments--Ladybug Garden Epoxy Shapes and Moody Palate Glossy Dots
- Basic supplies--Bone folder, Paper Snips, adhesive (I like Multipurpose Glue and Seal+), Paper Trimmer, Stamp, Cut and Emboss Machine, Take Your Pick Tool, Piercing Mat or Glass Mat Studio, Regular and Mini Dimensionals, Tear 'N Tape
Let's start with the card on the left. If you have trouble with this written tutorial, watch my Facebook Live video below that I uploaded to YouTube. After you use the second largest Beautifully Celebrated die to cut out the 4 1/4" by 5 1/2" piece of Old Olive cardstock, put the cut piece aside for the second card and emboss the rest with the Beautiful Pattern 3D Embossing Folder. Attach the scene from the Cute as a Bug DSP to the front of your card then attach the embossed piece using Dimensionals.
Using Mossy Meadow ink, stamp a sentiment from the Fabulous Saying stamp set. Hard to believe this stamp set was only $5!. Fussy cut the sentiment and attach with Dimensionals where it falls over the Old Olive cardstock and use Multipurpose Glue where it is on the Old Olive. Do the same for a couple of your fussy or die cut bugs.
For the inside of the card I fussy cut the marching ants, attached them to the piece of Basic White before attaching it to the inside of the card. To finish off the front I added a ladybug and 3 of the clear epoxy circles.
For the second card, I cut the Cute as a Bug DSP using the 3rd largest Beautifully Celebrated dies. I don't think you can tell, but it barely doesn't fit on the sides so cut it carefully so it is even. Attach this to the Old Olive die cut.
Overlap the pieces of Mixed Up Patterns DSP, making sure the overall length is 5 1/4". Attach a piece of the Old Olive Specialty Rickrack, adhering with Tear 'N Tape on the back. Now attach this to your folded card. Attach the picture piece using Dimensionals. Attach one of the bugs from the DSP using Dimensionals, then 2 of the Moody Palate Glossy Dots.
Using Mossy Meadow ink, stamp a sentiment from the Fabulous Saying stamp set. Fussy cut the sentiment and attach with Dimensionals where it falls off the die cut pieces and just glue where it touches them.
For the inside, attach the 3/4" piece of DSP that you cut off to make the top card to the piece of Basic White. Cut off any of the DSP that hangs off before attaching to the inside of your card.
Here's some other cards I made the same way with these supplies, just using different pieces of the Cute as a Bug DSP:
