2 Whispering Woods Cards


I just love the Whispering Woods Designer Series Paper. To me it looks like beautiful water colored landscapes and the backs of the DSP is just as beautiful as the fronts. I was just going to make one card with it, but ended up making these two and decided to show you both of them. I thought the little pine sprig from the Winter Adventures stamp set and the sentiment from Soiree Salutations (goes with the Banner Punch from the last catalog) paired well on these cards. The die cut trees are from the Twinkling Tidings bundle, which has some dies for hot foiling, which I obviously didn't use here (but they are fabulous).

Let's make these cards. I will call the card on the right card 1 and the one on the left card 2. Gather your supplies:

  1. Pretty Peacock cardstock—card base 5 1/2" by 8 1/2” scored at 4 1/4" on the long side and folded in half for card 1.  
  2. Lost Lagoon cardstock—card base 5 1/2" by 8 1/2” scored at 4 1/4" on the long side and folded in half for card 2
  3. Pecan Pie cardstock--4" by 5 1/4" for card 1 and 3 1/4" by 4" (or 3 1/4" by 4 1/4" as I used on my video) for card 2. Each card uses the central Banner Punch for the sentiment
  4. Whispering Woods DSP--Card 1 is 3 7/8" by 5 1/8", card 2 is 3" by 4". Scrap leftover from cutting up the front for card 1 was used on the inside (1/2-3/4" by 3 1/2")
  5. Basic White cardstock--3 1/2" by 5" for the insides. Card 1 also uses 4 1/4" by 5 1/2" for the trees
  6. Bundle--Twinkling Tidings for card 1
  7. Stamp sets--Soiree Salutations for the sentiment and Winter Adventures for card 2
  8. Punch--Three Banner Punch
  9. Ink—Pretty Peacock for card 1, Lost Lagoon for both
  10.  Array of Dots
  11. Pecan Pie Dark Blend (for card 1)
  12. Heat Embossing Supplies--White Embossing Powder, Versamark, Embossing Buddy, Heat Tool
  13. Basic supplies--Bone folder, Paper Snips, adhesive (I like Multipurpose Glue and Seal+), Paper Trimmer, Stamp, Cut and Emboss Machine, Take Your Pick Tool,  Piercing Mat or Glass Mat Studio, Regular Dimensionals


Let's start by making card #1 above. To see how I cut the Whispering Woods DSP, you might want to watch the video below. Attach the DSP to the Pecan Pie piece and then to the front of the Pretty Peacock folded card base.

Now let's stamp 2 of the trees from the Twinkling Tidings stamp set on the 4 1/4" by 5 1/2" piece of Basic White. Stamp the more detailed tree in Pretty Peacock, then stamp the the more flat/filler tree in stamped off (or second generation) Lost Lagoon. Cut them out with the coordinating dies, then cut one of the trees smaller. Glue them to each other then attach to the card base with Dimensionals. Be sure they don't stick out too far from the top and side (like mine do a bit above, though it still fits in a regular envelope). If needed, use the Pecan Pie Dark Blend to draw in some trunks.

Attach the leftover piece of DSP to the side of the inside Basic White cardstock (this is the other side of this piece of DSP) and attach to the inside of the card.

For both of the sentiment pieces I heat embossed in white on the Pecan Pie Banner Punched piece. Make sure you use your Embossing Buddy before stamping in Versamark, covering the piece with White Embossing Powder, flicking off the extra and then melting the powder with your Heat Tool. Add 2 of the Pretty Peacock Array of Dots embellishments and you are done. 


On to card 2, which is even easier than the first one. Using Lost Lagoon ink, and the pine bough from the Winter Adventures stamp set, randomly stamp all over the front of the folded Lost Lagoon card base. Offset the Pecan Pie piece under the Whispering Woods piece and adhere them together then attach to the card base using Dimensionals. 

For the inside, use the same bough stamp on the Basic White cardstock, then move it slightly and stamp again without re-inking. Attach this to the inside of the card.



Do the same as above for the sentiment and attach to the card using Dimensionals. Add 2 of the Pretty Peacock Array of Dots embellishments and you are done.

  3rd Charming Duck Pond Post This card is a modified gate-fold card as the left front is just 1 1/4". I love how you can use most of the page of the 6" by 6" piece of DSP scenery to make this card.   Floating Christmas Tree So if you make a lot of holiday cards like I do, it is time to start working on them! I know, I know, we haven't had Halloween yet, but if you want to send them out before the holiday it is time to get working. And this lovely card was inspired by someone else (sorry I just took a picture of it but there was no name on it so I can't thank you) who used her scraps to make the tree. I took it one step further and made a floating scraps tree. I've been wanting to make a card with this technique for a while and I knew this tree would look fabulous like this. And the second bonus is that I got to use up a ton of Lights Aglow scraps, even the small ones. All you need to do is cut your scraps into 1/2" pieces, attach them to a piece of window sheet and then cut out whatever shape you like. Charming Duck Pond Fun Fold I suddenly realized that the Charming Duck Pond bundle and everything that went with it was on the Last Chance List and I had never played with mine, though I had it for months! And I had loved the colors in it and the myriad of cards others had made, so it was time to take it out of the wrapping and get going. Later this week, come back to my blog, as I made several other cards using this bundle. I find the ducks in their ponds with their babies so adorable, so I had to start by using one of those pieces of DSP. I also love the pieces of DSP with the carp on them, but that's for another card.   I am calling this card a spotlight flap card.
